FaceScan is a biometric cross devise and cross platform face verification, powered by iProov — a trusted third-party provider. It confirms that you are a real, live person — not a photo, a mask, or a deepfake — and gives you a fast, self-service way to regain access if you ever lose your passkeys or devices.
💡 Bron does not store any of your biometric data. The face verification is performed entirely by our partner iProov, and all biometric data is held by iProov. Bron keeps only a reference to your enrolment so it can ask iProov to verify you later — it never holds your facial images.
What is FaceScan for?
FaceScan is used only during recovery — it is never required for everyday sign-in. With FaceScan set up, you can:
Recover access to your account if you lose your passkeys — see the Account Recovery: Step-by-Step Guide.
Restore signing on a device (trusted device recovery) — see the Managing Trusted Devices.
FaceScan works alongside Guardians — you can set up both and choose the method that suits you when recovery is needed.
Setting up FaceScan
Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Profile Settings.
Open the Access & Recovery section.
On the FaceScan tab, click Set up.
You will also be offered to set up FaceScan during sign-up, and in the Choose a recovery method dialog.
Before the scan starts, make sure you:
Are in a well-lit place
Remove glasses, hats, or anything covering your face
Hold your device steady
Set your screen brightness to maximum
You will be asked to agree to the use of iProov and to allow camera access. The camera is used only during the scan itself.
⚠️ FaceScan setup may be unavailable on some browsers or devices. If you see a message that your browser or device is not supported, try another device or browser, or update the Bron desktop app to the latest version.
During the scan, your screen will flash in different colours — this is normal. The changing colours are part of iProov's verification: they illuminate your face and help confirm that a real, live person is in front of the camera — not a photo or a video. Just hold still and look at the screen until the scan completes.
Security delay after setup
A newly added FaceScan must pass a 30-day security delay before it can be used for recovery. During this period, the FaceScan panel in your settings shows Security delay in progress with a countdown, and you can cancel the setup at any time.
The same delay applies when you change your FaceScan — the new enrolment replaces the old one and the 30-day delay starts again.
This delay protects you: even if someone briefly gains access to your account, they cannot add their own face and immediately use it to take the account over.
Using FaceScan for recovery
Account recovery (lost passkeys): after you verify your identity with a face scan, a 48-hour security delay starts. Once it ends, your access is restored automatically and you create a new passkey. If you have two-factor authentication set up but cannot confirm it, the delay is extended to 30 days.
Trusted device recovery: after the face verification, a 48-hour security delay starts. Once it ends, you activate the device and your ability to sign is restored.
For security reasons, the number of verification attempts is limited. If verification repeatedly fails, use another recovery method or contact support.
Managing FaceScan
On the FaceScan tab in Access & Recovery you can:
Change — replace your enrolment with a new scan (the 30-day security delay starts again).
Remove — delete your enrolment. You will no longer be able to use FaceScan to recover access to your account.
